The Green Economics Institute is thrilled to announce its exciting new virtual 15th Annual Conference on Friday 24th, Saturday 25st and Sunday 26nd July 2020.
The three-day event will host a wide range of speakers from across the world, delivering presentations on a variety of topics from wherever they are, including on responses to the latest challenges.
The Virtual Conference will be hosted on a state-of-the art digital platform, and delegates will be able to make new contacts and talk to like minded people and speakers from all over the world and all walks of life concerned with our futures.
Corona Virus, Climate Change or 6th Ever Mass Species Extinction- which is the biggest market failure the world has ever seen?
Health or Heddonism? The new science of Risk Management- our economy and our civilisation- one of most non-resilient ever?
Big Data, Big Brother, Big Companies- do we really want this kind of life style? – or do we all want a gentler, quieter, more homely life style, where we can hear the birds sing and we can breathe nice clean air and spend time with friends and family?
Is a Universal Basic Income now the only sensible solution?
The Gig economy, privatisation of global commons, and globalisation -are these now proven to be disasters and a very unfortunate blip in the history of civilisation?
Countries led by women seem to be doing hugely better. Is this a time to reverse 10,000 years of disastrous and destructive patriarchy and restart the civilisation of female leadership?
Economics of supply and demand- supply chain disasters- just in time principles, global supply chains- what a mess? Time to question these fundamental principles of economies of scale and see them as the disaster they really were. Small and local, regional, appropriate scales, what is the best solution. Why globalisation of supply chains is at the root of much of our current mess. We explore how it came about and how intra industry trade has made a huge merry go round of traded goods and people, whizzing round and round the globe and landed us with a total interconnected mess to unravel.
The CO2, Methane and temperature levels are climbing steeply and we currently have about 8 years to prevent the climate climbing over the 1.5 degree Paris target. Is the world on track for this- if not what are we going to do? The increase in diseases has been modelled and forecasted- is this really a choice we want to make or can we roll this back and prevent it happening? Who will be the winners and losers?
Towards a complete new philosophy of humans place in the world and its economy.
‘Ending the most destructive period in human history’
The end of the Anthropocene Epoch – and the beginning of the Biocene Era where nature comes first. Replanting ourselves in nature.
What have we done to nurture boy children to grow to men who trash the entire planet and beyond? Men who ignore nature and have no empathy and we admire them, follow them, reward them with riches and power and whole countries to order around. How do we undo this awful damage?
Human mess, waste and plastics has been found at the very bottom of the ocean-and the top of the highest mountains on earth- what economics system will stop us doing this?
The food chain, and cruelty to animals on a scale that is truly evil, is at the root of our current troubles and the costs are unimaginable and probably incalculable. This abuse of animals is based on the philosophy that the entire globe is there at the service of human men- to be domesticated or abused like machines with no conscience at all for their sentience or suffering. These horrific practices must now stop and the world is rapidly moving towards becoming vegetarian and then most likely vegan. We will need to take our place as part of nature- not the destroyer and rapper of nature. A big change in our overall philosophy of life and many people are feeling the time has come for this huge change in our food and agriculture. We examine the future history of our food, farming and agriculture and what it means and how it will affect every part of our lives.
Growing our own food has never been easier and yet most people think food arrives in cellophane, plastic and don’t equate it with the earth or nature from which all food comes. We run some interactive workshops where people can share their new experience of interacting with their own production of food- we only need a windowsill to be able to grow our own food. We explain how in a fun workshop.
Green Economics for development in Africa- an update.

Our books on health, mental health and healthcare have informed governments around the world- we present our ideas during the conference and show how these solutions would help today. We explore the latest ideas in social prescribing involve bringing nature back into people’s lives.
Everyday life but not as we have known it! We explore how it is that 90% of people do not want to go back to life before the lock down but prefer to hear the birds singing and actually want to work mainly from home- in a surprising finding -many peoples mental health has actually improved- what does this mean for a green economy- for commuting and transport planning and the economy in general.
Space junk- conquest of other planets, mining the moon, the north and south poles- satellites clogging up the earth- how do we justify wrecking our own planet and then starting on the others- is it time we got put in our place- our rightful place in nature- some people see this virus as doing just that?
The 6th ever mass extinction of species, insects numbers plummeting, bees disappearing, ocean creatures leaving huge dead zones, plastic zones in the depths of the sea, predicted no ice at the poles, sea level rise, catastrophic storm events, human induced earth quakes, trees, forests, rainforests felled to make way for cash crops, whole species wiped out, slave workers locked into dangerous fire prone factories, workers prevented by giant nets from committing suicide over their awful conditions, child miners digging down for components for others luxury mobile phones, child soldiers killing their parents in the service of greedy global supply chains, wars leading to ancient civilisations being systematically destroyed and massive migrations of displaced desperate human beings, flooding, whole modern cities without drinking water for months on end, biblical scale famines, industrial scale cruelty to animals, the largest human trafficking and slave trades in history, 1984 style computer algorythms and state control of every aspect of our lives, genes and bodies, all arising within 1 generation of humans- all justified by the ‘economy and the market’ Madness on a scale never seen before on earth. Shameful conduct by the earth’s most powerful species. It is time to stop the rot. Biblical style plagues of sickness, and locusts, and much more serve as what many people see as a warning to change course fast to a more benevolent economy in keeping with our real place in nature- not as the destroyer but as the nurturer and carer.
Mental health and the human spirit- how to recapture a lost time of solace and delight in the natural world and our mammal neighbours.
We were all fish once- why is it ok for us to trash the oceans?
Valuing bankers, financiers, power brokers and destroyers -far, far more than life savers, fire fighters, front line key workers, nurses, midwives doctors – life givers- why on earth have we created this skewed value system and now can we put it right?
Women, men and power- domestic violence- women and girls married off as commodities, paid much less than men during their entire life cycle, far more likely to be poor in older age. Ending this war against women and resuming the matrifocal life humans used to have. Many so called alternative narratives fail to change this domination of one groups wants to affect all life on earth- any change must solve this dilemma and make the economy more diverse, holistic and inclusive.
The event will have an emphasis on our solutions to a great future and our vision for the next 10,000 years of civilisation and follow up on our previous ideas for the prevention of poverty, women’s unequal pay and conditions, migration, the future of health, the future of the economy and the future of finance. It will feature our solutions for issues of social and environmental justice.
Our conference will uniquely provide link ups with our members in far flung countries and areas of the globe -so you can interact with them and they can interact with you – in one common event of humanity- sharing our common humanity with all people everywhere.

We will share a colourful dinner, tea and other cultural activities during the conference with our teams around the world- in an intimate setting of cultural sharing in small break out groups how human life on earth can be fun and kind and sharing.
The GEI will be revealing the programme of speakers for the 15th Annual Conference over the next few weeks, plus more about the platform’s features that delegates can enjoy. Registration for the event will open shortly as well as fees and donations.
The Conference is calling for papers, interviews for our TV station, book chapters, presentations, speakers, themes, workshops sponsors, exhibition stands and general participants. We will be launching books, having speaker panels, interactive workshops;
