Guiding us towards the future: Recalibrating women’s access to Leadership, Power, Science, and Economics.

The event will include interactive breakout sessions, debates and plenty of discussions around the topics. The event will have speakers from around the world from the spheres of politics, economics, and science.

Speakers will be announced shortly.

Sessions Include:

1. The Nature of Leadership in a Changing World

Proposed questions and topics for this session include:

• What are the issues leaders have to address in order to create a world that future generations want to live in?

• How has leadership developed in recent years?

• What models of leadership are working? – Exploring the notion of ‘soft power’ and inspirational leadership.

• What kind of leaders do we need for the challenges of tomorrow?

• What skills, missions and values do leaders from marginalised communities offer and how can we benefit from this diversity?

2. Women in Power & Politics

Proposed questions and topics for this session include:

• What are the challenges for women in the political sphere? – how are these heightened for women of colour, women who identify as LGBTQ+, etc.?

• What kinds of policy changes are needed for true gender equality?

• What can we learn from countries with high levels of gender equality?

• Who is currently championing gender equality in politics – in the U.K and globally?

• The importance of increased female participation in politics.

3. The Gendered Construction of Economics: Women in Economics and in the Economy.

Proposed questions and topics for this session include:

• How have traditional conceptions and understandings of economics excluded women?

• Recognising the ongoing contribution of women’s unpaid reproductive, domestic and caring work

• Exploring the lack of representation of women and minorities within the discipline and the ramifications of this.

4. Changing the Landscape of Science: Women’s voices from the scientific sphere

Proposed questions and topics for this session include:

• Exploring the historic exclusion of women in the sciences

• Challenging traditional beliefs around science’s objectivity & cultural and social assumptions of women and minorities.

• How has increased female participation within scientific spaces improved research?

• How and when can we expect to see true gender equality be reached in science?

Plenary Panel & Debate: Speakers:

What can we learn from leading female politicians? Why are their models of leadership working?

The countries with women leaders during the pandemic have appeared to do much better both in terms of health and well-being. Never has it been more necessary to redress the power balance for the benefit of humanity and of nature.

What are the challenges people facing the world today?

Who have the previous solutions benefitted/disadvantaged?

Were the previous solutions gendered, colonialist, and lacking in intersectionality and cruel?

What are the implications for science, power, leadership, and economics? Sharing emerging solutions and benefits.
