Edward Gildea: Sailing Around the World: getting in touch with oneself through nature and poetry. The combination of sailing across oceans and observing shrinking glaciers co-inciding with the births of his grandsons, transformed him into a green activist. Our modern, technology dependent lives have alienated us from the world that is our only home and life support. We have abused it, taken it for granted, used the oceans and atmosphere as if they were infinite sewers, greedily exploited wildlife and natural resources⊠And we are now facing the consequences.Never having intended to become an adventurer, still less a poet, Edward has circumnavigated the globe and climbed Himalayan peaks; experiences which gave him a powerful and visceral connection with our planet.

Speakers in Plenary 1:
The Amazon is burning! Indigenous communities and biodiversity are threatened more than ever. Weâre a global alliance of climate activists from the SOS Amazonia fund campaign of various countries raising awareness to protect the Amazon rainforest. By organizing strikes and digital campaigns we’re showing why it’s crucial to take action now, why the Amazon matters to all of us and the world has the power to positively change and protect our natural world. We’re defending the defenders and giving a voice to the most vulnerable life on earth. Since Bolsonaro’s presidency Amazon deforestation as well as violation and human rights abuse have increased immeasurably. If destruction continues the Amazon is already at the brink of reaching the tipping point, it will turn into a Savanna and the damage of loosing the biodiversity forever will be irreversible.
This is an emergency call and we would like to share this to reach out to you and discuss solutions and what needs to be done to save it as there is still time.
Speakers- Fridays for the Future: Alma Anderson FFF Sweden,
Aidan Mendoza Hayward FFF Finland, SOS Amazonia, Alexandra Buck FFF Germany
